What inspired you to become a chef?
What initially inspired me to become a chef was my father’s journey with cancer. Unfortunately, during his journey, he ended up in the hospital during the Christmas holiday, and I just wanted some sense of normalcy for our family. I decided that I wanted to cook a meal to feed my family, to lift our spirits.
During that time, my father and I had been talking about what I wanted to pursue after college, and I just kept coming up with, I don’t really know. I never really considered culinary as something I could do professionally.
When I made that meal, my father was unable to eat for the whole week prior because of treatments he was undergoing, and he ate two plates of that food. I just remember the smile on his face, and him asking me for more. I thought, if I could make him feel so happy in what was probably the darkest time of his life, I would love to do that for as many people as I possibly can.
